Conbit has successfully completed another flare tip replacement for its long-term client, PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), Thailand's national oil company. This project is a testament to the trust PTTEP places in Conbit, supported by its local partner CR3. The collaboration between Conbit and CR3 continues to demonstrate exceptional reliability and effectiveness in executing complex projects in the region.
Preparation is crucial to the success of any project, and this flare tip replacement was no exception. To ensure everything went smoothly, Conbit conducted a thorough site visit, where our team carefully assessed the routing and many other platform specifics. This visit allowed us to anticipate and address potential challenges before they could impact the project timeline.
One of the highlights of the preparation phase was the load test, conducted in the Netherlands and witnessed online by the client. This innovative approach not only demonstrated the capabilities of the lifting system but also reinforced PTTEP’s confidence in Conbit’s ability to manage complex operations remotely. The primary lifting system was configured using lightweight modular tubular sections, forming a structure over 8 meters tall and 8 meters wide. For the main lifts, a 6-tonne electric lift winch was employed, capable of handling the required loads with precision and safety.
Conbit’s partnership with CR3 has spanned more than a decade and has proven to be highly effective for projects in Thailand. The synergy between Conbit’s engineering expertise and CR3’s local knowledge ensures that every project is executed to the highest standards. For this flare tip replacement at the Greater Bongkot South (GBS) facility, a gas and condensate field located 200 km east of Songkhla in the Gulf of Thailand, the teamwork was seamless.
The flare tip replacement was not without its challenges. The bridge, linking platforms, posed a significant obstacle for routing the flare tip to the base of the flare tower. However, the combined expertise of Conbit and CR3 ensured that this challenge was overcome without any impact on the project timeline. After the flare tip replacement, Conbit also supported CR3 with the piping works, demonstrating the comprehensive nature of their collaboration.
A team of five Conbit technicians, supported by two CR3 technicians, completed the project safely and on time, further cementing the strength of this enduring partnership. Through meticulous preparation, innovative problem-solving, and strong collaboration, Conbit and CR3 continue to deliver exceptional results for PTTEP in Thailand.
