BW offshore contracted Conbit to develop a solution for a complicated lifting challenge. They required Conbit to provide a solution for tilting the flare tip on the Catcher FPSO platform.
When the Catcher FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading) was in Keppel yard in Singapore, Conbit’s expertise was required for tilting the flare tip. Also, in securing it in a cradle on the access platform as there was a height restriction for the transport to Europe, to the Catcher field in the Central North Sea.
The Catcher Field is located in the Central North Sea Block 28/9 in a water depth of 91 meters. Conbit proposed a new lifting method, delivered the required equipment, and executed the flare tip handling.
A davit was installed for handling the flare tip, which was never used before. And there was no procedure for how to use it. Conbit performed an inspection during a site visit at the yard in Singapore and concluded that the system in place was not fully suitable for tilting the flare tip. Conbit provided an alternative lifting method and additional equipment.
The crew lifted the equipment to the top platform using a power descender. Then, they rotated the flare tip using the davit combined with rigging techniques and a tilting / securing frame.
Conbit’s experienced IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) rope access crew performed the lifting and tilting procedure of the flare tip (weight: 1.235 kg).
The client has a very tight deadline and not enough means to perform this job. Conbit provided a suitable method, delivered the required equipment on time, and conducted the work ahead of schedule.
