Conbit was contracted to design and supply a flare tip handling kit to replace a flare tip on an FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading). Conbit also performed an on-site rehearsal of the flare tip replacement to test the procedures and look for improvements.
When the client was advised to replace the flare tip before sailing away, Conbit executed the actual flare tip replacement on short notice. Conbit specializes in engineering flare tip handling methods. The crew members are highly experienced in running flare tip replacement projects safely and in a timely manner.
Handling components on FPSOs involves specific challenges due to vessel movements. At the top of the flare tower, the movement is significant.
To control the load and limit the weight of the lifting structure, Conbit provided a project-specific solution. They decided on a system with guidelines and an outrigger structure to perform the lifting.
A month before sailing away, the client urgently requested Conbit to arrange a crew to replace the existing flare tip. Two weeks later, the Conbit crew started the replacement.
Six Conbit crew members successfully did the job. They worked in 9 working days with 12-hour shifts. Hence, they could finish on time, before the planned sail away. Besides having some additional workforce and early detailed back-office preparation, the job was successful because of the qualified crew members.
The client’s management was delighted with Conbit’s execution of the project. It was a great job done safely and very efficiently. It was particularly appreciated considering the extremely short notice and tight schedule before the FPSO sailed away.
