OXY Occidental in Oman contracted Conbit to perform the tensioning work to a flare stack. They had to reinstate the end termination of the wire ropes to the prescribed minimum of seven cable claps per connection.
To perform the guy wire maintenance, Conbit utilized PIAB guy wire tension measurement equipment and total station for verticality check.
Conbit engineered the new tension values, ensuring that the final pretension values and angle deviations were within the values. The prescribed pretension values are -10%/+15% or within a pretension tolerance of -15%/+20%.
Conbit based the engineering tension values on the temperature as they recognized their impact. By cross-checking the temperature's influence on the values, Conbit determined a more precise pressure measurement using this technique.
One of the challenges Conbit faced was mobilizing the crew within a short time frame with calibrated lifting equipment. The client was impressed with Conbit’s quick action and successful execution.
