Conbit was contracted to provide the engineering system and design saddles for the transportation of monopiles (MPs) and an X frame for transition pieces (TPs) at the ABLE UK yard in the United Kingdom.
The scope of work increased as the project progressed. Conbit ensured that they could engineer a quick response and solution for the client when requested.
Conbit, with the help of a subcontractor to check the ground bearing capacities, also designed the soil bunds so Conbit could store the MPs.
One of the biggest challenges Conbit faced was optimizing client cost savings. Conbit had to consider costs at every phase of the engineering and preparation. One of the ways to do this was through optimizing the welding and steel used for the X frames, as the clients could acquire materials at a competitive price.
In line with the client’s focus on cost-effectiveness, they wanted to utilize the equipment they already had. As the MPs were so heavy, the team needed to use the SPMTs as best as possible and combine them to reach a larger capacity.
Conbit produced a unique saddle design to hold and transport the MPs on-site to achieve this.
The clients were impressed with Conbit’s quick and responsive approach evident throughout the project.
